News Bureau files contain correspondence, reports, and publications regarding fund-raising campaigns; the advertisement of church happenings and special events; reference and statistical work; publicity overseas; and publicity for the Diet at Worms celebration (1921), Lutheran conferences and conventions, and the Lutheran World Convention assemblies of 1923 and 1929. The Lutheran Bureau was formed in 1917 under the direction of O.H. Pannoke. In 1919, it came under the auspices of the newly formed National Lutheran Council where it served to gather and disseminate NLC and Lutheran church related news through news releases to Lutheran and secular papers. The Lutheran World Convention (LWC) was founded by the National Lutheran Council and the Allgemeine Evangelisch-lutherische Konferenz to coordinate international Lutheran relief efforts after World War II and to promote Lutheran fellowship and cooperation throughout the world. John A. Morehead (1867-1936) was instrumental in its organization and served as executive committee chair (1923-1929) and president (1929-1935).
